What Are Memes?

Now,  we know what slang is but what is a “meme”?!

This word is hard to define, but essentially, a meme is not only an image but can come in the forms of a video or piece of text too. It’s a behavior/style, or idea that spreads from people to people within a culture—usually with the goal of communicating a certain theme/meaning, or phenomenon. A meme behaves as an element for conveying symbols, practices, and cultural ideas, which can be conveyed through different forms of communication (ex. gestures, speech, writing, or imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme). In short, a meme is something that is copied many times, each time with a twist, and spread quickly by Internet users.

Now, many of you guys are probably thinking: how could these memes possibly be useful? If you look closely at these memes, they are not solely funny pieces of media, but rather something that reflects the society and culture of our kids, just like slang. All these memes are understood across nations and becomes an enormous online world, and includes everyone regardless of things like skin colour, social status or popularity, with the help of our technologically advanced world of today.
